What is Title 1?

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  The purpose of this title is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. It is the largest federal assistance program for our nation's schools.  The program provides extra help to students by offering:

• smaller classes
• additional teachers and assistants
• additional training for school staff
• extra time for instruction
• a variety of teaching methods and materials
• counseling and mentoring
• career and college awareness
